What is Lava?
The official instructions say to watch out for the lava and not let it touch you. It rises during a steal and punishes a late grab, a low path, and a route you invent while you are already carrying an egg. Later biomes leave less room for Grass timing. There is no published global timer.

Present on steal stages. It is not an item you collect.

Leave during an open path, use high ground, and abort when the only way home is already covered. Practice a new stage once with empty hands.
